The reason I have chosen this course is to widen my range of knowledge and skills in the world of textiles design and to eventually gain employment using these skills.
I enjoy designing quirky, abstract pieces and I am inspired by the natural world and feel this contributes to the way I express my ideas.
I would welcome the opportunity to study at this university as the course teaches me 'a deep understanding of the context of my work' which will provide me with the expertise to allow me to be competitive in the real world.
Having visited Manchester on many occasions I find it a stimulating, multi cultural city. The good reputation of the university and the success of students finding work in their chosen area will be a real benefit to me.

Shibori Scarve

This is a scarf which I made in my textiles lesson using viscose with an organza trim. This was produced as a final out come for a project named 'Abstract'. For the shibori technique I used different sized buttons and beads, then secured them in the fabric and steamed for 20 minutes.

Textiles Purse

This is another project outcome which I designed and made in my textiles lesson. The project title was 'Sweets'. I took the colours and shapes from different sweets such as skittles and smarties to produce a purse. I used fabric ink and printed circles using a template. The zip decorations are made from multicoloured felt and have hand stitching round the edges.

Silver Rose Bracelet

This is a silver bracelet that I made during a jewellery class attended outside of college. I designed and then made it using sterling silver.

Plemped Bowl

This is a plemped bowl I made during a college class - 3D. I used wet clay and moulded it adding texture to the surface and using a light blue glaze for the overall finish. The design and outcome of the bowl was to represent the movement of water in an abstract way.

Life Drawing

This painting was produced in black water colour on water colour paper as a study of a naked model in life drawing class.

Life Drawing

This is another study of a life model using chalk pastels on brown sugar paper. I used bright colours and abstract shapes for the background which draws attention to the study of the life model.

Abstract Oil Pastel Design

This is an abstract design which I composed using oil pastels. I used black oil pastel for the background which creates depth and brings the abstract shapes forward.

Pencil Drawing & Shading

This is a pencil study which I produced using a range of pencils from 2H - 6B. This was produced as a study of a picture by Daniel Preece named 'Canary Wharf by Night', for a project called 'City Life' focusing on buildings and the interaction of people.

Acrylic Painting in the Style of Tamara De Lempicka

This is a painting I produced using acrylic paint for contextual studies focusing on the art movement 'Art Deco'.

Acrylic Painting in the Style of Monet

This painting was composed in acrylic paint. I painted this as a response to Claude Monets 'London Houses of Parliment at Sunset' for contextual studies referring to the movement ' impressionism '.

Textiles Weave

This is a weave I produced for a project named 'Connections'. I used different coloured fabrics which complimented each other. This technique, I find, is really effective.
